Isaiah 25:9 01:51
Come behold This is our God We've waited for him Hearts rejoice And be glad He's our salvation
2.
Awaited King 04:31
Promised seed of Abraham Lord of lords, and the Great I Am Fully God, and fully man Born that night in Bethlehem Son of David, long awaited king Took on flesh, took on suffering Even now, the angels sing Glory to the lamb You were the one of whom the prophets spoke You were sent to bring the nations hope Into our darkest night God you shined your light On your shoulders, rests the government And your peace, it will see no end You destroyed the throes of death And brought us life again For unto us, a child has come And His name, oh it shall be called Wonderful, and almighty God Now and forevermore
3.
We've been waiting Like a woman who's with child For your arrival All creation Has been groaning for a sign A growing hope inside When the fullness of the time had come God sent forth His only Son Born of the virgin's womb Through Him came grace and truth How merciful, how marvelous Heaven's king would take on flesh How wonderful, miraculous God on high would dwell with us We've been wand'ring Through the desert all our lives Longing for Messiah Anticipating A Kingdom from on high Whose reign will never die Incarnation Breaking through our silent night A tiny infant's cry No more waiting Our deliverance draws nigh In the fullness of the time
4.
Sunrise from on high Visit us with your light Ransom us with your life Dayspring come shine Save us from our enemies Guide our feet in your peace Until the morning star Rises in our hearts And these labor pains stop And we see you as you are You became like us That we might be like you Bending down to dust To raise us up anew You would choose to trade Your throne for bed of hay A staggering exchange Our burdens for your grace
5.
Abide In Me 04:10
Born into a manger Straw to crown His head The all powerful Creator Resolved to take on flesh The bright and morning star The Author of all life To darkness he would condescend To flood the world with light Birds, they build in branches Foxes have a den Yet the Lord of all creation Has nowhere to lay his head The one whom angels offer Their worship and acclaim For sinful man would he endure Scorn, neglect, and shame You could have come in splendor Arrayed in robes of light And called the world to render Homage to your might Still you chose to suffer Far from heaven's throne To purify a people you would Call your very own Now, my Lord, I pray Find here a willing soul Surrendered unto you my King Make this heart your home How could i be a stranger To Him who set me free Come and take your rightful place Lord, abide in me
6.
Bethlehem Though the weakest of your brethren Ephrathah Though the smallest of the tribes of Judah Out of you shall come A ruler for My people Out of you shall come The shepherd for My children I will use the weak to shame the strong And foolish things to shame the wise For a humble spirit is what I long for And a contrite heart I won't despise
7.
Open Heart 05:57
Christmas in the hospital That's not how tradition goes, yet here we are You need surgery, but they're no openings Until New Year's Eve, so here we are And I can't help but think about Christ And the way he stepped into this life To a world full of sin With no room at the inn Still he entered the depths of our strife And the similarities they abound As you lay in that hospital gown For in weakness He came For the sick and the lame That the true light of God might be found There's no ornaments, or fancy tree Just humble circumstance this Christmas Eve And you might think it's of no consequence But it means everything, eternally We all need An open heart To receive This gift of love So would everyone Prepare Him room For “God with us” To come and rule

about

Hark!

Over the last few years, the awe of the advent of Christ has taken up a revived residence in my soul. I have been quietly humbled at what C.S. Lewis termed the “grand miracle” - that very God of very God would come to us, become like us, in order to spread out His invitation of salvation. As I age, this divine mystery grows in sweetness, and has produced several songs in response. So I wanted to share them with you as a gift, in hopes that they might stir your heart to wonder and adoration of the Savior this Christmas season.

Peace to you,
AJC

about

Andrew Joseph Connell Newark, Delaware

Andrew Joseph Connell writes songs for the King who saves and sanctifies. His roots are in Delaware, the Small Wonder, where he serves his local church. Each year he seems unable to escape the wonder of the incarnation and so much of his catalog fits into the unconventional Christmas category. He prays his songs are like a glass before your eye, that sets your gaze on Jesus. ... more
